Blogging will be light to nonexistent until later in the week, due to the impending move and giving/grading a test. And a daughter that doesn’t want to sleep at night any more, which makes the process of thinking during the waking hours sort of problematic…

My mommy-sense (like spidey-sense, only more telepathic) says that the process of packing up and moving is making her insecure –>> no sleeping. She’s around 24 months, isn’t she? Get her a cheapo sleeping bag from target & make sure that’s the constant.

Worked like a charm when I was travelling with the JumperGirl when she was tiny.

  2. Liz — Yes, she’s definitely expressing her insecurity about the move here. She understands that we are moving (at bath last night I was talking to her about it and she said “Bye-bye this house!”) but she’s got a lot of uncertainty about it all which is maninfesting itself through not sleeping. (She says, “I’m scared of [fill in the blank with Barney, thunderstorms, spiders, fireworks, or robots]”.)

We’ve been spending a lot of time at the apartment and using the swimming pool, and we’ve gradually moved her stuff over and let her play there. Also, she picked out the color of accent wall in her room. She actually conceives of the apartment as “home”, but it’s confusing because we live in one place and “home” is somewhere else. Then in November, “home” will be somewhere else (the new hosue) and we’ll get to do this all over again. I think I underestimate the importance of a routine in my daughter’s life sometimes and what she has to go through at her age (=30 months).
