Don’t know if you saw this in the sidebar, but I got this comment early this morning regarding a wiki that’s been set up to coordinate action against Blackboard for patenting what amounts to anything that looks or smells like an online learning system. I checked it out, and it looks legitimate, and potentially very useful. There’s also a related blog.
Of particular interest is the Blackboard Is Suing Me page, where you can post any cease and desist order you might get from Blackboard and get it reviewed by a legal clinic. That particular page claims to be done in cooperation with the Electronic Frontier Foundation and other related groups.
Let’s hope it doesn’t come down to lawsuits just to be able to use common alternatives to Blackboard.
